Today in my blog “Ways to Alter Consciousness” I will share a new meditation I came across through a good friend of mine by the name of Martin.

It is well-known that meditation is one of the most effective ways to alter consciousness. This particular meditation begins with walking near the water or in nature and feeling your oneness as you walk with a leaf, a pine cone, a bug, a rock, etc. etc. It is designed to enhance creativity by achieving a state of ‘universal oneness.’

Now during this meditation, you want to avoid labels such as good/bad, clean/dirty etc. The idea is to feel at one with ‘all of it.’ So if you come across a wad of gum or beer bottle do not put any negative labels on then. Just pass by them with peace, knowing that they are part of the universe too.

Next you sit down by the water and practice mindfulness. Be entirely in the moment with every feeling, every sensation of your surroundings- the smell of the leaves, the feel of the grass, the breeze on your face. Just be totally aware and in the now. Do not wander off into thought about it all. Just be there, with all of your senses.

When you feel a deep peace and oneness you can get up and make your way back to a place where there is a blank wall. It may be outside your house or inside- as long as it is peaceful and quiet. You will now need a recorder, sketch pad, or notebook and you will simply stare at the wall, not trying to do or be anything, and be ‘at one’ with it. Just as you were outside.

Pretty soon you will feel a curious sensation. The universe will begin to work through you. It will not feel as if you yourself are working, but rather as if you are channelling some other power. If you feel yourself starting to ‘work’ go back to staring at the wall and finding your oneness with it.

I can tell you that this meditation is one of my powerful ways to alter consciousness in my work environment. If it does for you what it did for me, it will bring a new depth to your work, and a new sense of joy in the creation.

And it is also very personally fulfilling.
